I didnt grow up thinking I was at risk of being arrested for smoking pot.
#TYPE O NEGATIVE RACIST FULL#
Now full disclosure, I'm a white male who grew up in a middle class neighborhood. They are also far more likely to use violence on black people when they are arrested. Police are far more likely to convict a black person than a white person for the same crime. They're also way more likely to grow up in a single parent home. On average black people are way more likely to grow up in a poor neighborhood. Disadvantaged people are more likely to commit crime because they cannot afford to pay for the resources they need to survive. All of these compound into each other and build to create members of society who grow up disadvantaged. Poverty, leads to a lack of basic resources means food insecurity, housing insecurities, less access to Healthcare, worse educational facilities, lower literacy rates ect. There's a variety of factors for this but the main one is poverty. However, police violence is statistically higher in black neighborhoods. Now, by itself the George Floyd murder appears to be an isolated incident. Several of these protests became violent hence, the controversy. Conservatives (in general, I know there are exceptions) tend to like to point to Floyd's criminal history, the fact that he was on drugs or anything else to justify this death.įollowing this protests broke out all over the United States for the movement Black Lives Matter protesting police violence. For anyone that somehow doesn't know what these were, the simple version of the narrative is that a black man, George Floyd was killed by a police officer after that officer nelt on his neck for 9 minutes during an arrest. The George Floyd rallys are obviously controversial. Now so far this is a little abstract so let's use an example. Some of these examples are your race, economic background (primarily as a child), level of Healthcare access, the schools you attend ect. Privilege, is more of the idea that there are factors you cannot control that can and will affect your quality of life. I can't speak for every progressive but I don't see privilege as a sin. The members of the progressive Twitter mobs certainly don't paint us in the best light. I understand why this is what you think of progressives. John McWhorter really explains this well in his piece "The Neoracists". In this religion, privilege is the great sin, and anyone with an identity that is viewed as "privileged" (white, male, and sometimes also asian) needs to endlessly repent in the same way that Christians feel the need to repent to Jesus for the original sin. In many ways, progressive social justice is a religion: unfalsifiable, dogmatic, and not-to-be questioned.

Progressives hide behind their identity like a deer in the headlights. Now, this was about gender, but the same type of shit happens with anything involving race relations too. Her: Do you know what women go through everyday? You are a man and you should not speak on this!!! Me: Now wait a minute, you just said to not make assumptions, but you're assuming that she's the victim even though the physical evidence and the police suggest the exact opposite. Keep in mind that this was a case of a woman defending herself against a man. Here's how a conversation with one of these folks went for me when we were discussing a case where a girlfriend stabbed her ex: But, I am pretty frustrated with progressives, particularly college progressives.

So to first clarify, I'm not a conservative, although I hold some views that may be in conjunction with conservatism.
